Choosing your first clipper
Your clipper is the tool you'll hold more than any other. Here's how we help students pick theirs.
What the specs actually mean
The spec sheet is short once you know what matters: blade speed1, cordless runtime2 and the steel the blades are cut from3. Speed is comfort as much as power — around 10,000 RPM cuts thick or wet hair without snagging, and 13,000 RPM with torque control adjusts power to the hair as you cut.
Runtime starts to matter once you're doing back-to-back cuts; 90–150 minutes covers a session, and cord/cordless models remove the anxiety entirely. If your clipper will pull double duty on line work, zero-gap4capability is worth having — it's more relevant to your trimmer, but useful on a clipper that does both.

Where we start students
